Adventure Therapy sessions which involve kayaking, archery, primitive fire building, and challenge course initiatives normally last between 2 and 3 hours. This allows us time to engage meaningfully and safely with the environment and activities selected. These sessions can take place on local waterways for paddling kayaks and at Cielo Vista Team Challenge for activities such as archery, primitive fire building, and ropes courses activities. Most families interested in extended adventure therapy sessions begin with archery so we can set goals intentionally and mindfully explore healthy boundaries, effective communication, and safety together.
Through family counseling, your loved ones and you work together in outdoor settings to help bridge connections, improve communication, build confidence, experience joy, and enhance trust with one another.
Of course, helping professionals are not immune to traumatic events either. Families who have experienced a traumatic event can experience resiliency together in ways that unlock important conversations during family counseling.
Family sessions usually take place at Cielo Vista Team Challenge but can happen in settings such as parks too.
Working with helping professionals often involves exploring what brings meaning to your life, reconnecting to joy, tapping into personal strengths, and managing burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Individual sessions can happen in a traditional office setting, in the outdoors, or occasionally online.
While some clients choose to only participate in individual counseling, most invite family members at some point, even for a session or two, to help reach counseling goals. My work is highly relational in nature because I recognize how powerfully our loved ones can impact our goals and outlook on life.
Whether you are seeking counseling for yourself or a loved one, please know I believe strongly in feedback informed treatment. This means I check in with my clients regularly to help make sure my clients feel understood, and that we talk about topics important to my clients during each session.
